5 rows of peas......

This weekend in Casper Wyoming it has been BEAUTIFUL..   very little wind (for those who have been here knows that is a treat)  The sun has been shining and the temps in the 70's.  We have been loving it!!!    Well..  Since the weather has been  nice now for awhile we decided that we would take that opportunity and get some compost..  till the garden and plant some of it.  We got 5 rows of peas planted and in 2 weeks we will plant some more peas that way they are staggered and we will get to enjoy them a little bit longer.  :)

Kennen has been extremely busy getting pinewood derby cars ready for the race on Tuesday night (3/27/12) I will post pictures of race and cars then. :)   Lets just say..  He has made 3 cars as it has been opened up for the entire ward.  All 3 are extremely different and very fun.

I should be trying to research curriculum for next year,  but wishing there was a huge general store here so I could open up books and look inside.  Since there isn't,  I will continue my research and hopefully find what the boys are in need of for this coming school year.

The boys are busy with Science class, Pe class,  church,  scouts, youngmens, school, chores and everything and anything else.  :)

Hope this finds you all well, and pictures of the derby cars will be coming in a few days.

a fun filled week!!!!

We had a GREAT week...   We bought 2 coconuts  and peeled them, poked holes and drained the "milk:  the continued to smash them open.
Robbie is tasting the coconut...   He didn't like it..  He says there is no flavor to it.  Which is true.  :)
Sid opening up his..  He loved it..  ate it..  :)   Just another FYI  if you live it out on your counter it grows mold faster than anything I have ever seen.  ;)
This is some of the milk..  With both coconuts we got almost 3 cups.  We then strained it and let the boys try it.
This is our first fire of the year.  :)  March 17, 2012  it was a beautiful St. Patrick's Day...   The boys and I hung out, cleaned, went to a birthday party...  Waited for daddy to get off of work then off to the trailer show we went.  It is always fun to LOOK at new things.   When we got home from that our Corned beef and cabbage dinner was finished..  Ate it up then went out and enjoyed the fire.  :)

This week we also went to the Home and Garden show...  and all our normal School stuff.

Hope  you all had a very HAPPY St. Patrick's Day...    We are looking forward to the week to come as Science class starts up again for another 5 week session.    I am hoping I remember the camera as they are going to be hatching chicks, and other critters.

Happy Sunday to you all!!!

46 more days........

We only have 46 more days of school left.  WOOT! WOOT!   Then Summer vacation here we come.

I just had to share with you all what we did today...   Sid was working on his phonics.   He had a sentence that read:  Can a truck dump logs?   yes or no...      He reads the sentence then he says...  Well...   if it is a dump truck yes..  if it is a little truck they don't dump, so then it would be no...  They really need to tell me what kind of truck.  :)   Gotta love that little boy and his way of thinking.

Then in math we started learning a new concept.  Greater than and Less than..   Sid caught on so fast.   I am big and I still have a hard time..  < >  which is which???    Well...   Greater than is >  and Less than is <   I learned a new way to remember this  okay two examples were given in Sids book.  Let me share..  the wide part is always facing the biggest number..  like it is eating it.  or...   if you look at a row of numbers  0, 1, 2, 3, etc..   the point is always facing the way the number is going..   so 1 < 3  or  3 > 1   now you can see both examples of the way to remember int that example I just gave you.  :)   Either way it is GREAT that Sid learned this so quickly..  Now I will also remember which is which ( I hope) ..

Happy Tuesday to you all...

Science with Ivory soap

With this experiment you start off with a bar of Ivory soap.  We cut ours in half.  That way we were able to do the experiment twice.  We put on paper plate.  Then we discussed why Ivory soap was important to use for this experiment.  Ivory soap is the only soap that floats.  Why?  they whip their soap to make it full of air.
Then we placed in microwave for 30 sec. at a time..  :)   It took 3 times (90 sec.) to get rid of all the bar.
The upper picture is in the microwave.  The bottom is when we pulled it out.  The content is not wet or gooey.  It is just like foam that is hard.  It is pretty cool...  If you are worried about a mess..  No worries cleans up easy.  :)
This is Sid with the first go around.  He is silly!!!
Both boys.....  Oh my!!  don't look at the dirty kitchen.  :)   Robbie looks as if life is hard at our house.  hehehe
If you get a chance to do this experiment it is super fun and easy.  Our boys LOVED it!!!!  who knew that soap would blow up like this???  ENJOY!!!!

2 weeks???

So I am such a slacker...   Sorry!!   thought about blogging often just never have done it.   I can't believe its been 2 weeks..  Well here are a few pictures from that 2 weeks.     I never thought I would say this, but Sid loves using manipulatives for math.  I never believed in them...  Well,  my thoughts have changed and yes we use them daily.    It was also Kennen's birthday and he wanted a better than sex cake..  So..  He got one.  It was so yummy!!!
for school we were learning about General Washington and his soldiers..  This is stone cake..   They only cooked it on one side so the other side was like glue.  (yuck!)
so..  as the good mom I am (hehehe)   I cooked a few on both sides to see then how it was.  These are just made with wheat flour and water..
Still even being cooked on both sides they were still ick!   The boys are very grateful that they were not soldiers in that time.  The soldiers ate these 3 meals a day.
Sid taking a big bite out of one.    Go Sid!  go Sid!
I was busy making a baby blanket.  I quilted each square..  cut out the cute hearts and quilted them on.  I think it turned out pretty dang cute...  :)   Oh and we were all not sure about the pink material being in our house.  :)
This quilt is for a super cute friend of ours who was having her first baby..  That cute baby arrived on Feb. 29, 2012  Happy Leap Year Birthday to baby Eden.    Erin the mom was the boys art teacher,  we became fast friends.  Congratulations to Erin and Kevin!!!

Other things we have been up to...   Lets see..  shoveling snow and snow and snow...   going to Young Mens, Church...   Helping with the cub scouts Blue and Gold Banquet..  (Sid is not there yet, but soon )   Going to Science class...  Doing school...   Being Sick...   We all have been so sick this last week.   Whatever it is, it is nasty..   It has started out as a little cold in 2 of the boys..  turns into a flu like thing..  (achy and can't move)  back to coughing and stuffy heads..   oh and sore throats all the way through..  Yep..  this is our week..  well Mom also came down with this..   but my aches ended up being so much worse than any of the boys.  I literally couldn't get out of bed yesterday (sat. march 3)  This morning I woke not as achy but coughing with my lungs burning.  Kennen was up most of the night last night achy and coughing and his throat is super sore.  Both boys also have it..  Robbie we are hoping is on the tail end of it since he started it.  Sid is two days ahead of me.  He started on Thursday..   The joys of family closeness in one house.  :)

Hope this all finds you well.  Happy Sunday!!!
